Many a baby garments have been sacrificed on the throne of cod liver oil. The golden spots can seem impossible to get rid of. But that was before you tried these expert tricks!

It is not always easy to get the daily spoon of cod liver oil in the little ones. Often, half of it lands on your clothing, and the part that is swallowed, get gulped back up. But don`t worry. We have in fact received Malin Skaar’s  expert advice on how to get rid of stubborn fish oil-stains!

Remove the stains quickly

Malin Skaar, head of Lilleborg Consumer Service

Malin Skaar, head of Lilleborg Consumer Service, explains that it is important to remove the stains as soon as possible.

“Pour some undiluted Zalo directly on the stain, press it gently into the fabric and leave for about 20 minutes. Rinse the fabric WELL and wash the garment following the instructions on the label. The higher the temperature you dare to use, the greater the chance of getting rid of the stain is. If the garment is white or bright, use laundry detergent with bleach”.

Old stains

To be honest, we do not always take care of stains immediately. So what should one do with the old, dried stains that the baby clothes are full of? According to Malin all hope is not lost for these garments either.

– “The old stains are difficult, but not impossible to get rid of. Try to use the same approach with Zalo as a stain remover. Zalo is actually very effective to dissolve the fat cod liver oil consists of. If the stains doesn`t go away after the first time, don`t give up, try a few more times with Zalo followed by laundering. If the stain is still there after this, it is worth trying with a high temperature before the garment is discarded”.

Stains on the furniture

Did you get spots of cod liver oil on the furniture, such as on the fine wool sofa? Malin has tips for getting rid of those too.

– “You have to experiment with water and either Zalo, or Milo, if there is a case of stains on  wool. Remember to be careful not to use too much water, and always wash stains ‘from the outside in’. This is slightly easier if the cover is removable. If so, I recommend the same procedure as for clothing. But always remember to follow the washing instructions as well, so you don’t ruin the cover. Some upholstery may be submitted to dry cleaning”.

Malin’s last expert tip is about how you get rid of the odor of cod liver oil:

“It is important to rinse the smell away as much as you can before you use the washing machine. And if you think it smells cod liver oil in your washing machine after washing, run an immediate Omo Maskinrens at 90 degrees”.
